We’ve rounded up 7 of the best open-heart watches for women at every price range. Read on to discover our picks and find out what makes each special. Whether you’re searching for an affordable price or a future family heirloom, there’s plenty to choose from on this list.

Our picks

Orient, ‘Bambino Open Heart’ Japanese Automatic Stainless Steel and Leather Dress Watch

Orient Bambino Japanese Automatic Open-Heart Watch

The Orient Bambino Japanese Automatic Open-Heart Watch is a fantastic choice for women who like to walk the line between elegance and technology. The captivating open-heart design lets you peek into this watch’s inner workings — which run seamlessly thanks to its automatic movement.

With a silver stainless steel case and brown leather band, the aesthetic appeal of this watch is obvious. Perfect for everyday wear, the versatile style can easily match any outfit and will pair well with jewellery. The slender hour markers also add to this watch’s elegance, giving an open feel to the watch face. Neither too big or too small, this 40.5mm watch will suit most wrist sizes and look slightly-sporty while doing so.

Despite the lower price point, the automatic movement is nevertheless impressive, meaning you’ll never have to worry about batteries. It’s a great option for beginner watch enthusiasts or those hoping to add an open-heart dial to their collection without breaking the bank.

  • Price: $640 AUD
  • Movement: Automatic
  • Case Diameter: 40.5mm
  • Case Material: Stainless Steel
  • Water Resistance: 3 bar (30 meters)

Seiko, Presage Basic line Open Heart Automatic mechanical watch SARY187

Seiko Presage Basic line Open Heart Automatic mechanical watch SARY187

This watch is all about elegance. With its blue dial and black leather straps, it’s a stunning piece to wear in the office and beyond. Pairing equally well with a black power suit as it does with jeans and a white tee, this watch defines the constraints of style, making it a highly-wearable but still unique timepiece. At nearly 42mm, it’s definitely on the larger side for women’s watches, and is in fact branded as a men’s watch. However, thanks to it’s unique colour, elegant silhouette, and eye-catching circular window that reveals the inner workings, we think it still looks classy when worn oversized thanks to the eye-catching roman numerals and sophisticated design.

Those with more delicate features or style sense might want to choose something daintier, but if you favour bold looks, this oversized watch just might be your perfect match. While small watches might be more traditional, oversized watches are often associated with modernity and a sense of sportiness. With impressive 5 bar water resistance, this watch is ready to handle whatever you throw at it.

  • Price: $775
  • Movement: Automatic
  • Case Diameter: 41.8mm
  • Case Material: Stainless Steel
  • Water Resistance: 5 bar (50 metres)

Tissot Tradition Powermatic 80 Open Heart

Tissot always gives off an elegant vibe, and this watch is no exception. In fact, it’s hard to find fault with this one-of-a-kind watch. Walking the line between modern and old-school, this watch is truly a delight for newbies and seasoned collectors alike.

With a small window at the twelve o’clock position and transparent case back, you can watch the balance wheel and other mechanical movements hard at work. The powermatic movement also promises 80 hours of power reserve, meaning that the watch will remain accurate even if unworn for up to three days. When it comes to looks, this one is a stunner. In addition to the gorgeous guilloche decoration which adds texture and dimension to the dial, the domed sapphire crystal gives this watch an air of luxury. Given the price point, there’s good reason why it deserves a spot on this list.

  • Price: $1,280
  • Movement: Automatic
  • Case Diameter: 40mm
  • Case Material: Stainless steel with rose gold PVD coating
  • Water Resistance: 3 bar (30 meters)

Hamilton, Jazzmaster Open Heart Lady Auto

Hamilton Jazzmaster Open Heart Lady Auto

Love a pop of colour? No matter how bright your wardrobe is, this pink dial would suit nearly any outfit. With just a hint of colour to give personality, but subtle enough that it won’t compete with the rest of  your outfit — we’re obsessed!

One of the smaller watches on this list, the Hamilton Jazzmaster is a high quality option for anyone looking for something more subtle. Watch collectors and first-time buyers will agree that this is one of the best skeleton watches. Inspired by ‘flowers in bloom’ the unique dial colour is perfectly complemented with the watch’s stainless steel bracelet. Just like the men’s Jazzmaster open heart auto, the ladies version has a three-hand movement and impressive power reserve of 80 hours.

Overall, if you’re a fan of the colour pink and want a watch that’s just as impressive in function as it is in looks, this watch design should rank highly on your list.

  • Price: $1,725
  • Movement: Automatic
  • Case Diameter: 36mm
  • Case Material: Stainless steel
  • Water Resistance: 5 bar (50 metres)

Raymond Weil, Freelancer

Raymond Weil Freelancer

If, when looking at the Raymond Weil Freelancer, your first thought is ‘that’s a men’s  watch’, you’d be right. But on closer look, it also works wonderfully as a large watch for women. Worn oversized, this style of timepiece gives off a sporty vibe, making this watch work (even when large) with casual outfits. And while the look of this watch is stunning in itself, it’s the exclusive self-winding movement that really takes it to the next level.

In collaboration with the manufacturer, Sellita, Raymond Weil has crafted a new movement that is built specifically to display the stunning mechanism on the watch’s open-heart. ‘The strategic organs positioned above the mainplate and the symmetry of the bridges accentuate the architectural nature of this elegant and beautifully balanced model,’ says the brand, highlighting the extent of thought put into every detail of this technical but stunning timepiece.

  • Price: $3,150
  • Movement: Automatic
  • Case Diameter: 42mm
  • Case Material: Stainless steel
  • Water Resistance: 10 bar (100 meters)

Oris, Artelier Skeleton

Oris Artelier Skeleton

For a look that feels distinctly more feminine, you can’t pass up this gorgeous watch from Swiss watchmaker, Oris.

While Oris is firmly within the tradition of Swiss watchmaking, this brand stands out in its desire to ‘change for the better.’ But what does this really mean?

In addition to other initiatives revolving around community and nature, Oris makes some of its movements in-house and focuses on sustainable materials in its watchmaking. The Artelier Skeleton is no exception, with a sustainably sourced and produced leather band. In light tan, the band will stay in style all year round and easily match with the clothes you already have in your wardrobe.

  • Price: $4,000
  • Movement: Automatic winding
  • Case Diameter: 33mm
  • Case Material: Stainless Steel
  • Water Resistance: 5 bar (50 metres)

Rado, True Square Automatic Open Heart

Rado True Square Automatic Open Heart

If you truly like to stand out from the crowd, then this square watch might be for you. Bold and unapologetic, it practically shouts ‘look at me!’ Since Rado is known for it’s high-tech materials, it’s no surprise to see high-tech ceramic used for this watch, rather than stainless steel. Compared to metal, the ceramic used by Rado is scratch-resistant and light to wear.

Thanks to the durability of the ceramic, this watch is great for everyday wear, especially if you’re not the most careful of watch-wearers. The square style is truly unique, and while it might be polarising, there’s no denying that it’s eye-catching. In fact, we think that the square shape works especially well for this see-through dial, beautifully contrasting the circular motifs within the mechanical work.

  • Price: $4,150
  • Movement: Automatic
  • Case Diameter: 38mm
  • Case Material: High-tech Ceramic
  • Water Resistance: 5 bar (50 meters)

What are open heart watches?

Open heart watches are a subcategory of automatic watches that allow you to see the mechanical parts of the watch through the watch’s dial. Usually, these watches either have a small window that exposes the moving parts  or a more open dial design. These watches are also referred to as skeleton watches since they offer a peek at the inside, or ‘skeleton’ of the mechanics.

If you’re interested in the idea of an open heart watch, but not sure where to begin, the good news is that they come in a range of styles and pricepoints to suit all aesthetics and budgets. Depending on how prominent or subtle you want the open heart to be, you can find options with small peeks into the inner workings, as well as ones that are fully-exposed, like an exhibition case — but on the front of the watch.
